Ann Profita died peacefully on Sunday, November 12th at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta, NY where she received loving care over the past 6 years. Ann was born on June 9th, 1921 in Jersey City, NJ. She resided there with her parents Maria and Frank Gumina and her sisters Antonietta, Frances, Josephine and Maria until her marriage to M. Frank Profita in a double wedding (along with Maria) in 1949.
Ann was a master seamstress and created outfits for friends and family. She loved to tell the story about how she was commissioned to produce an entire wardrobe for a minister's daughter as she headed off to college.
After high school and until the birth of her first son Frank in 1953, Ann worked for the corporate office of Macy's in Manhattan, rising to the level of customer service manager when she supervised scores of correspondents responding to customer concerns.
During those years, Ann delighted in spending weekends at the Culvermere Resort in NJ dancing, laughing and communing with life-long friends such as Peggy and Dave MacRae, Tom and Val Fenelon, Martha Allen and many others.
Ann devoted herself to raising her 4 children, Frank, Michael, Joyce and Joan from the 1950s through the 1980s while living in Clifton, N.J. Ann was also the devoted and beloved aunt to over 20 nieces and nephews, going well beyond the normal role of an aunt to support them in times of joy and adversity. In either case, Ann (known as Auntie Jean on the Gumina side) could be depended upon to host and feed the extended family. Ann was especially fond of her three grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew and Andrew and daughter/sons in law, Diane Veros, Michael DeBiasse and Jeremy Lloyd.
Ann suffered the tragic and premature death of her husband Frank in 1974 and returned to the workforce to support her family. With the help of family friend, Rita Solomon, she acquired a position in the Bursar's Office at Montclair State College where she thrived, advancing to Assistant Bursar before retiring at the age of 77.
Ann was an active parishioner and member of the Prime-Timers at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Clifton and participated in projects to help the less fortunate.
Ann will be missed by all who knew her for her generosity, good nature, perseverance through adversity and wise counsel.
