Anna Swietek Obituary

Anna Swietek of Clifton died in peace this past Thursday, June 8th after a long period of declining health.
Our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother was born on September 18, 1919 in what was then the village of Zámutov, Czechoslovakia now Slovakia. Spending her early life in the village she immigrated to the United States in 1932 with her brothers (her sister was already married and stayed behind). After traveling across Europe as young child to the port of Cherbourg France, along with her brothers, they boarded the ship Berengaria to New York to join their father.
In 1941, she married the love of her life, Teofil, after meeting him at the Polish Hall in Passaic. For 67 years, they cared for one another. Having a strong will and determination she raised three boys and worked very hard both at home and as a seamstress. We would tell her that she should have had at least one girl to compensate for the boys. She had strong feelings for her adopted country and was not afraid to chasten someone who complained, perhaps understanding her opportunity, even at a young age. While never completing a formal education, she was determined to learned English by attending classes.
She loved to have a garden of flowers and vegetables, especially roses and tomatoes and traveling to Arizona and New York to visit her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008, parents Anna Humenyik and John Dubravski, and her siblings John, Mariá (Kalafa) and Michael.
Our Mother is survived by her children, Thomas and his wife Barbara of Clifton, Donald and his wife Nancy of Williamsburg, Virginia and Paul and his wife Diane of Gilbert, Arizona. Grandchildren Matthew, Kerrie Ann, Thomas K. and his wife Kim, Paul K. and his wife Malina, Michael and his wife Dawne, Jacquie and her husband Chris, Carrie and Tara. Great Grandchildren Nicole, Alexander, Natasha, Gavin, Jacob, Emma, Thomas and Adam. Many nieces and nephews here and in Slovakia.
We will miss her deeply. Kieé...
