Anthony Taschler Obituary

Anthony (Anton) Taschler was born in Garfield, NJ on June 23, 1923, was raised in Passaic and Clifton, NJ and graduated from Clifton High School in 1943. He was with the 314th Infantry Regiment of the 79th Division that landed on Utah Beach in Normandy France on June 10, 1944 (D-day plus 3). He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic service in capturing the fortress at Fort du Roule overlooking Cherbourg Harbor on June 25, 1944. Weeks later he was severely wounded in an artillery barrage outside of La Haye-de-Puits. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
After graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1951, he worked for 35 years at Picatinny Arsenal as a chemical engineer specializing in propellants within the Armament Research and Development Command of the Department of the Army.
He was a resident of Little Falls for 63 years.
In May 2016, he was appointed as Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the Republic of France for his contribution to the liberation of France in World War II.
His beloved wife Agnes of Little Falls and Sea Girt died in 1998. He is survived by his sister Helen Zak of Clifton, two daughters Jayne Pierro of Little Falls and Susan Morasch (husband - Spencer) of Sea Girt, a son Jeff Taschler (wife - Dina) of NYC and four grandsons: Shawn and Kurt Morasch, and Zachary and Will Taschler.
Visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 9 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be held Saturday 9:00 am from the funeral home followed by a 9:45 am Mass at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton. Interment to follow at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Montclair. In lieu of flowers please make donations to: Hire Heroes USA, 1360 Union Hill Road, Bldg. 2, Ste. A, Alpharetta, GA 30004.
