Carmine "Scritt" Scrittorale was known by many and loved by all during his 92 years of life. His story began in Garfield, NJ when he was born to Domenica and Michael Scrittorale and was one of ten children. Scritt (as he was known to everyone) enlisted in the US Navy and served during World War II.
While still a teenager, he met the beautiful Jeanette Mistretta, the sister of his friend. As she sat on the porch with her younger sister, Scritt decided he would marry her one day. He wrote to her faithfully while he was away at war.
When Scritt returned, he and Jeanette married. They raised their two daughters in East Paterson (now Elmwood Park) NJ. Scritt was a devoted family man, working hard to put his daughters through catholic school and then college. Throughout his career, he owned and operated Car Jo Radio and TV in Saddle Brook NJ and was Vice President of Sales of Empire Overall in Elmwood Park, NJ. After he retired he worked part time doing construction with his son in law.
Scritt's greatest and proudest accomplishment was his family. His two daughters became teachers, married, and had children of their own. Scritt delighted in his 4 grandchildren and became a strong presence in all their lives. Every holiday, birthday and special event was commemorated and recognized. He made each visit a special occasion and would go above and beyond to make sure they were all happy.
Scritt loved the New York Yankees, his country, and going to Atlantic City and playing Bingo with his sweetheart. But he seemed happiest, at the head of his table, surrounded by his family and friends, telling stories and making everyone laugh.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers (Paul, Charles, Michael, Anthony, Frank and Joseph), sisters (Anna Minimi, Nancy Cuccia, and Theresa Boltzer) and his daughter, Kathleen Barbetta.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jeanette, his daughter Janet Interdonato and her husband, Dennis, his son in law, Michael Barbetta and his 4 adoring grandchildren - Kristin Barbetta, Dennis Interdonato, Stacey Bruce and her husband Ricky, and Kevin Interdonato and his wife Amanda, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
His presence, stories, and infectious laugh will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.
