Dr. Liberti was born in Passaic and lived in Garfield for many years. He was the son of Frank and Minnie Liberti.
From early on at Garfield High School, he was an avid tennis player and remained so for most of his life. Dr. Liberti was also a violinist from an early age and played well into his seventies. He was a member of the Metropolitan YM-YWHA Orchestra in West Orange and performed with them regularly.
Dr. Liberti joined the Navy in 1945 as a Pharmacist Mate.
After the Navy, he attended L.I.U. and was then accepted to Georgetown University Medical School in 1948 and graduated in 1952. He did his internship at Fordham Hospital in NYC and there met and subsequently married Roseann Hernandez in 1954. They had two sons, Dante and Paul. His residency in Internal Medicine was at Metropolitan Hospital in NYC and East Orange Veterans' Administration Hospital.
Dr. Liberti opened his medical practice in 1956 and maintained a solo practice until 1997, when he joined the Passaic Internal Medical Group, which became New Jersey Physicians. He remained with the group until his retirement in 2006.
During his entire medical practice, Dr. Liberti was a member of the Attending Medical Staff of Passaic General Hospital. He was the head of the Diabetic Clinic at PGH from 1966-1991. He appeared on TV for a Diabetic Symposium hosted by Tom Sullivan.
Dr. Liberti was the campus physician at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford from 1970-1993. He was a member of the Bergen and Passaic County Medical Societies and the American College of Physicians.
He was the private physician of the poet William Carlos Williams until the poet's death in 1963 and was a Trustee and Original Founding Member of the WCW Center for the Performing Arts in Rutherford.
While maintaining his active medical practice, he raised his two sons, following the death of his wife, Roseann in 1970. In 1975, he married Linda Bisone and they just celebrated their 43rd Anniversary.
Dr. Liberti is predeceased by his parents; his brother, Thomas; and his sister, Rosalia Jacobs.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his two sons, Dante and his wife Carolyn and Paul and his wife, Sandi; five granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren.
Visiting will be held Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. The funeral service will be held Thursday 10:30 am at the funeral home followed by entombment at Calvary Cemetery in Paterson. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
