Dermot P. O'Connell

DERMOT P. O'CONNELL, 80, of Passaic died Sunday at Daughters of Miriam Center, Clifton.
Born in London, England, 1937 to Mary Ellen Driscoll and Daniel J. O'Connell of Cork, Ireland. During the World War II Blitz, he was evacuated like many young children, to live with foster families in the English country side. Following the war Mr. O'Connell moved to Cork, Ireland where he spent his formative years. In 1956 he emigrated to live with family in New York City. February 4th, 1961 he married Jane Reynolds of Garfield, (who emigrated herself in 1957 from Scotland) and settled in Passaic. He was employed most of his life in Computer Operations for IBM, New York City.
Mr. O'Connell was a parishioner of St. John Kanty RC Church, Clifton where he sang in the Choir. Previously, he was a parishioner of St. Nicholas RC Church, Passaic where he was a lector, cantor of the twelve o'clock mass for many years. He also taught CCD classes, was on the choir and a member of several committees.
Mr. O'Connell is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Jane Reynolds; his five children, Maureen Grasso and her husband, Robert of Clifton, Daniel O'Connell and his wife, Anne of Morrisville, Pa., Mary Sekanics and her husband, John of Clifton, Seamus P. O'Connell and his wife, Emily of Milford, NJ and Jane Cosgrove and her husband, Richard of Clifton; his three sisters, Maureen Penon of Wayne, NJ, Mary Wells of Tazmania, Australia and Catherine Kundra of London, England; and her eleven grandchildren, Sara, Jennie, Jeremy, Caitlin, Meghan, Kerrie, Sinead, Connor, Ian, Aidan and Ewan.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Thursday from Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton and 11:00 am at St. John Kanty RC Church, 49 Speer Ave., Clifton. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation on Wednesday from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Eva's Village, 393 Main Street, Paterson, NJ 07501
