Doris E. Nick

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the loss of Doris Elizabeth Nick (née Moore). In her passing, she joins her beloved husband Joseph and son Dennis who have preceded her in death. She leaves behind her daughter Wendy and husband Michael Gallart, three granddaughters and their husbands, Paula and James Czapla, Jessalyn and Jared Coffin and Jennifer and David Sawicki, as well as six great grandchildren, Liam Speck, Aurore Czapla, Caroline and Andrew Coffin and Madeleine and Katie Sawicki. Doris' well-lived 91 years were a beautiful example to all of pure love and devotion to family.

Doris was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, the second of five daughters. Much of her young life was lived on her grandparents farm in Middlefield, MA where she raised prize winning bantam chickens, picked blueberries, tapped maple trees and churned butter with her grandmother and grandfather. Later in her life she moved to New Jersey where she resided in Newark. There she met Joe Nick at the drugstore and soda fountain where she worked. He stopped in, she made him a black and white, and so their love story began. They were married 57 years at the time of his death in 2003. Together they lived in Clifton for more than 50 years on Viola Avenue in the house they purchased together. Michael and Wendy then had the pleasure of living with them both on Rutgers Place in Clifton.

In addition to being a homemaker, Doris was a an entrepreneur, who made her career creating exquisite draperies, often of silk and hand painted exotic fabrics. She was a master craftsperson whose knowledge and attention to detail is unsurpassed.

Doris has been beloved by all who have had the pleasure to meet her and to know her. We will always be in her gratitude for the love and wisdom she conveyed to us throughout our lives. She will be the angel who remains in all our hearts forever.

Visiting will be Monday from 4-8pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral Tuesday 10:30 am at the funeral home with interment to follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Upper Montclair.
