Evelyn nee McElhone Daviou left this life for eternal peace on August 12. She was 98. Born and raised in Lodi, she and her two siblings, George and Gertrude shared a memory filled childhood. It was in Lodi were Evelyn met a handsome Frenchman, Albert, who swept her off her feet with the classic pickup line, "Hey, ya wanna walk to Passaic"?
Albert and Evelyn walked to Hackensack and Garfield and in 1940 down the aisle. They produced four attractive and intelligent children and worked very hard to provide them with things they did not have. In 1957 they moved to Clifton.
After many years Evelyn retired from Bendix Aviation to become the baker of pies extraordinaire and the cheese cake queen of Clifton. She also took up tennis and captained a championship team from the Clifton Tennis Club. She played until she was 85 when a broken hip took her off the courts. She never stopped baking. She was a lifelong, active member of the Richfield Christian Reformed Church.
Predeceased by her dear husband and her two siblings, Evelyn is survived by her four children: Sandra Biel of Salt Lake City, UT; Karen Daviou, of Clifton; Judy Henry of Hamburg, NJ; and The Rev. Albert Daviou, Navarre, FL. She also leaves seven grand children and fourteen great-grand children.
Visiting will be at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave, Clifton; on Friday, August 17, 11:30-12:30; funeral service will follow immediately. Interment will be at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
