James Smith Obituary

James J. Smith, 83, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away January 7, 2020. Born in New York City, Mr. Smith resided in the Bronx, NY for many years before moving to Clifton, NJ in 1975. He retired to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2009 where he lived since. Before retirement, he was employed in the trucking and warehousing industry through the Teamsters Union Local #807, primarily in the Bronx.
Mr. Smith attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Denville and was a member of the Outdoor Single Friends of Jefferson.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine C. (nee Brennan) Smith in 1997; one son, Frank Ruschke in 1997; one daughter, Helen Smith in 1985 and his ten siblings.
Survivors include: three children, Joseph J. Smith and his wife, Debra of Myrtle Beach, SC, Susan Ruschke and her partner, Joe Cavaleri of Livingston, NJ, and Kevin Smith of Wallington, NJ, as well as three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his loving partner of 14 years, Nell Vogel of Rockaway, NJ and her daughters, Marlene Racz and her husband Joseph and their 3 children, of Hackettstown, NJ; and Christine Ciampi and her husband David and their 3 children, of Rockaway, NJ.
Visiting hours will be held Friday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:30 am at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue followed by the interment at St. Mary Cemetery in Saddle Brook.
