John "Jack" T. Kamphausen, 79, of Clifton passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017. Born in Paterson, Jack was raised in Clifton where he lived for most of his life. He served as an altar boy at Little Sisters of the Poor at the age of seven and continued to serve until entering the seminary. He was always active in sports and athletics. Jack graduated from St. John Cathedral High School, Seton Hall Divinity School, Darlington Seminary and Louvain University. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in Louvain in June of 1963 and served his first mass at St. George R.C. Church on Michigan Avenue in Paterson in July 1963. He served at St. Joseph Church in Lincoln Park, St. Joseph Church in Paterson, St. Mary Church in Wharton and Our Lady of Mercy Church in Whippany and taught at Morris Catholic and Bayley Ellard High Schools before retiring. Upon retirement, he worked at the Meadowlands for many years.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, John B.T. and Elizabeth (nee Fox) Kamphausen.
He is survived by his two sisters: Elizabeth Ann Langston and her husband, Robert, of Waldwick and Therese Jansson and her husband, Dennis, of Whippany; two brothers: William Kamphausen and his wife, Joanne, of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Robert Kamphausen and his wife, Margaret, of Randolph.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3 to 7 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral Thursday beginning at 9:00 am at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. John the Baptist Cathedral, cor. of Grand St & Main St., Paterson. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Paterson.
