Joseph F. Lewandowski, 92, of Clifton died Wednesday Evening, July 12, 2017.
Born in Wloclawek, Poland, Mr. Lewandowski became a naturalize United States citizen in 1955. He retired as an Electronics Assembler with Howe Richardson Scale of Clifton.
Mr. Lewandowski was a veteran of the Polish Army during World War II serving in the Brygada Swietokrzyska. In the United States, he was a very involved soccer coach. He and his friend, Mary Beleski, coached the Clifton Olympics and was a member of the Vistula Soccer Club of Garfield. A highlight of his soccer coaching career was coaching and chaperoning two US Soccer teams to Poland to play in the Polonia Soccer Tournament.
Mr. Lewandowski was very active with the Polish National Cultural Center on Monroe Street in Passaic. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance Organization and participated annually in the Pulaski Day Parade in New York City.
He was predeceased by his parents, Czeslaw and Jadwiga (nee Skowronska) Lewandowski.
Mr. Lewandowski was the devoted grandfather to Monika and Maciej Dlugosz and the beloved friend of Jolanta and Leszek Dlugosz.
Funeral Service will be 9:00 am Monday from Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 515 Lexington Ave., Clifton and 10:00 am at St. John Kanty RC Church, 49 Speer Ave., Clifton. Interment to follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, So. Hackensack. Visitation on Sunday from 2-5 pm.
