Maria Oleschuk

Maria (nee Karpuk) Oleschuk, 85, of Passaic, passed away on December 10, 2018. Born in Huta, Volyn, Ukraine, Maria grew up during the Polish, Russian and then German occupation of Ukraine. She arrived, through Nova Scotia, into Winnipeg in 1950 and then came to the United States in 1958. Maria settled in Passaic and resided there since. Prior to retiring from Green Sleeves, Inc., she had been employed as a seamstress for many companies in Passaic.
Maria was a faithful parishioner of Ukrainian Orthodox Holy Ascension Cathedral in Clifton where she was a longtime member of the Lysenko Choir. She was a counselor for the Ukrainian American Youth Association; a cultural events coordinator for the Ukrainian community in Passaic and was President for the Passaic Branch of the Women's Association for the Defense of Four Freedoms for Ukraine.
Maria was predeceased by: one grandchild, Christopher Oleschuk; one son-in-law, Howard Wilke; one sister, Marina Lymar; and two brothers, Mykolaj and Mychajlo Karpuk.
Survivors include: her beloved husband, Theodore Oleschuk; her children, Olyia Buckley and her husband Robert, Peter Oleschuk and his wife Dianne, Anne Wilke and Olena Lenczuk; three sisters, Olyia Berestiuk, Lucia Hula and Helen Priadka; ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Visiting will be held Friday from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Parastas 7:00 pm Friday Evening. Funeral services will be held Saturday 8:15 am from the funeral home and then 9:00 am at Ukrainian Orthodox Holy Ascension Cathedral, 635 Broad Street, Clifton. Interment to follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
