Mary Ternovay

TERNOVAY - Mary (nee Bires), 91, of Garfield passed away peacefully on May 14, 2017.
Born in Hracky, Slovakia, Mrs. Ternovay came to the United States in 1949 and settled in Garfield where she lived for most of her life. Prior to retirement, she had been employed with the Clairol Co. in Saddle Brook as well as Gulden's Mustard, also in Saddle Brook. She was a faithful parishioner and member of the Rosary Society of St. Mary RC Church in Passaic and was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol.
Mrs. Ternovay was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael, in 1980; by a brother, Andrew Bires; and by a sister, Ann Jacobova.
She is survived by her five children: Mary Ann Donkersloot and her husband Robert, Jane Picardo and her husband Carmine, Margaret Latona and her husband Jack, Michael G. Ternovay and Kathleen Ternovay; her brother, Stefan Bires; her sister, Veronica Bajusova; eight grandchildren: Michael, Jessica, Giacomo and Rebecca Latona, Kimberly Donkersloot, Mark Picardo and his wife, Lauren, Kevin Picardo and Kathryn Picardo; and one great-grandson, Christopher Picardo.
Funeral services will be Friday 9:15am from the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton and 10:00 am at St. Mary RC Church, cor. Market and Monroe Streets, Passaic. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Visiting Thursday 5-9pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be preferred and appreciated.
