KRYGSMAN - Roland, 86, of Clifton, passed away on April 16, 2015 after a long illness. Born in Middleharnis, the Netherlands, he immigrated to the United States in 1953. He survived the World War II occupation of the Netherlands and Great Flood of Holland in 1954. He was trained as a dental technician, electrician and general handyman and was employed by the Greater Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) for 24 years as a food inspector, Ernst & Young and Herald News as a facilities manager. Roland was also an author and historian having lectured about his experiences during the German occupation of Holland. He was the principal owner of the Wooden Shoe Company, a U.S. distributor / importer of Dutch souvenirs.
Roland is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lena and brother Willem of Middleharnis, in addition to other numerous relatives from the Netherlands. He is also survived by his sons Adrian and wife Jacqueline of Totowa, Herbert and fiancé Nidia of Clifton and Roland and wife Liliana of Margate, Florida as well as grandchildren Wesley, Frankie, Lauralee, Kourtney, Tara, Arend Justin and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Sunday at the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton with a Funeral Service at 4:30 pm. Private Cremation to follow.
