Virginia T. Grossi Matas, 100, of Wantage, formerly of Paterson, passed away on February 22, 2017. Born in Paterson, Mrs. Matas resided there before moving to Wantage. Before her retirement, she had been employed as the Director of Legal Services at Catholic Family and Community Services in Paterson specializing in Immigration Law. Mrs. Matas earned her law degree from Fordham University in New York City. She was a member of the Federal Bar Association and a former parishioner of St. Brendan R.C. Church in Clifton.
She was predeceased by her husband, Emil J. Matas and her parents, John F. Grossi and Mary (nee Rubino).
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Josephine Vroegindewey and her husband, Adrian of Wantage and Joan Theresa Pinto and her husband, Robert of Dover; two grandchildren, Emily Hanselman and her husband, Jonathan and Christina Pinto; and one great-grandchild, Wesley Adrian Hanselman.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Brendan R.C. Church, cor. of Lakeview and Crooks Aves. in Clifton. The interment of ashes will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Paterson.
